Drug dogs work by using their highly sensitive sense of smell to detect specific odors associated with illegal substances. They are trained to identify scent molecules, such as marijuana, cocaine, or methamphetamine, and alert their handlers through trained behaviors, often treating the search as a game. Rittman's drug dog is associated with Shielded Paws K9 which is a 501C3 organization, designed to help support K9's and their handlers as well as providing tools and equipment to better protect and serve communities. Our current police dog handlers are Officer Steven Hunter with "Narc" and Officer Braden Colter with "Limbo".
